Description of the Egyptian Papyrus of the Goddess Maat with Outstretched Wings
Dive into the ancient wisdom of ancient Egypt with this majestic papyrus, entirely handmade in the Nile Delta from the iconic papyrus plant using traditional methods.
The work depicts the goddess Maat, symbol of balance, truth, and justice, gracefully spreading her blue and green wings, adorned with her ostrich feather. It is a reproduction of a fresco located in the tomb of Nefertari, the Great Royal Wife of Ramses II, located in the Valley of the Queens (one of the most famous and impressive tombs of ancient Egypt). Each piece is painted using a refined mixed media technique: block print engraving, Indian ink, gouache, luminous pigments, and gold highlights. A true masterpiece of craftsmanship.
Who is Maat?
Goddess of cosmic, social, and moral order, Ma'at embodies truth and justice in Egyptian mythology. It is to her that every deceased soul must answer. During the judgment of the dead, her iconic feather is placed on a scale, facing the deceased's heart. This ritual determines their access to the afterlife. A powerful symbolism that is still relevant today.
