Victim of its success

This sculpture is a reinterpretation of the god Anubis, inspired by the majestic figure found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Originally carried on a ceremonial litter, it has here been reimagined on a base shaped like a door, a direct allusion to the sarcophagus of the young pharaoh, symbolically inviting one to cross the threshold between the world of the living and that of the dead.
Unlike the many replicas currently available in France, this work is truly unique. Fawzia personally selected it in Luxor, Egypt, from the artist Salah Sayed. Hand-carved from steatite — a stone extracted from the eastern Egyptian desert — it reflects an ancestral know-how passed down through generations.
Every detail has been shaped according to traditional methods. Once sculpted, the piece is covered with a glaze made of quartz and copper, inspired by the techniques of ancient Egyptian faience, and then fired to strengthen its structure and reveal its deep, vibrant blue hue.
To complete this work, a glaze of quartz and copper is applied, following a method inspired by traditional Egyptian faience. After firing, the piece displays a deep blue hue with iridescent reflections, evoking the night sky and the divine.
Symbolism: Anubis, the jackal-headed god, is the guardian of tombs, the guide of souls, and the master of the passage to the afterlife. He presides over the judgment of the deceased and accompanies the initiate in their spiritual transformation.
Through this sculpture, a whole world of mystery, tradition, and symbolism takes shape, embodying the meeting between ancestral art and contemporary emotion.
A rare and powerful piece, perfect for enriching a collection of Egyptological objects or adding a touch of mystery to your interior.
