This sculpture is a reinterpretation of the god Anubis, inspired by the majestic figure found in Tutankhamun's tomb. Originally carried on a ceremonial palanquin, it has here been reimagined on a door-shaped base, a direct allusion to the young pharaoh's sarcophagus, as a symbolic invitation to cross the threshold between the world of the living and that of the dead.
Unlike the many replicas now available in France, this work is a truly unique piece. Fawzia personally selected it in Luxor, Egypt, from the artist Salah Sayed. Hand-carved in steatite — a rock extracted from the Egyptian Eastern Desert — it bears witness to an ancestral craftsmanship passed down through generations.
Every detail has been shaped according to traditional methods. Once sculpted, the piece is covered with a glaze made of quartz and copper, inspired by ancient Egyptian faience techniques, then fired to strengthen its structure and reveal its deep, vibrant bluish tone.
To complete this work, a glaze of quartz and copper is applied, following a method inspired by traditional Egyptian faience. After firing, the piece displays a deep blue hue with iridescent reflections, evoking the night sky and the divine.
Symbolism: Anubis, the jackal-headed god, is the guardian of tombs, the guide of souls, and the master of the passage to the afterlife. He presides over the judgment of the deceased and accompanies the initiate in their spiritual transformation.
Through this sculpture, a whole world of mystery, tradition, and symbolism takes shape, embodying the meeting between ancestral art and contemporary emotion.
A rare and powerful piece, perfect for enriching a collection of Egyptological objects or adding a touch of mystery to your interior.
