Unique piece made to order, by sending your request to contact@nilazur.com
This very rare hippopotamus sculpture will complete your interior decoration by adding an artistic and majestic touch.
The hippopotamus, a sacred animal in Egypt, protector of women and children, symbolizes renewal and fertility, like the Nile, considered the source of primordial life. The hippopotamus is also associated with power, an attribute valued by the Pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom. The most prestigious Egyptological collections include iconic hippopotamus statues of this type, such as William's at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The sculpture shaped by Artist Salah Sayed is made of steatite, a rock extracted from Egypt's Eastern Desert, then hand-shaped following traditional methods. The artisan's meticulous work brings life and character to these emblematic creatures.
Once sculpted, the work is coated with a glaze made of quartz and copper, using a technique inspired by ancient Egyptian faience, then fired to gain strength and achieve its bluish hue.
On a shelf or on a table, this sculpture is a unique work worthy of a fine Egyptian collection.
