This very rare hippopotamus sculpture will enhance your interior decor by adding an artistic and majestic touch.

The hippopotamus, a sacred animal in Egypt, protector of women and children, symbolizes renewal and fertility, like the Nile, considered the primary source of life. The hippopotamus is also associated with power, an attribute appreciated by the Pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom. The most prestigious Egyptological collections include iconic statues of hippopotamuses of this type, such as the one by William at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The sculpture shaped by the Artist Salah Sayed is made of steatite, a stone extracted from the eastern desert of Egypt, then hand-shaped using traditional methods. The meticulous work of the artisan brings life and character to these emblematic creatures.

Once sculpted, the work is coated with a glaze made of quartz and copper, using a technique inspired by ancient Egyptian faience, and then fired to gain strength and achieve its bluish hue.
